Join us for a single day of the Shimmyathon experience.

Shopping and registration

Vendor tables available (vendors or swap meet-style dancer tables welcome) $25 each

11:00am-1:00pm:

Live Music: Regional History, Rhythms, Scales and More

What you'll learn:

-Meet the band and learn about their rich history of New England live music

-Learn and practice to dance to common rhythms (handout provided)

-Discussion of scales/maqams/taxsims and how to respond as a dancer

1:00pm-2:00pm:

Lunch- with your choice of sandwich bar or protein bowl bar, mingling, and shopping

2:00pm-4:00pm:

Live Music: Popular Songs, Show Structures and Building Your Show

What you'll learn:

-Listen to some of the most popular songs dancers used in live shows while we go over the musicality breakdown with the band (A written list and translations will be provided.)

-Understand basic dance show structure

-Understand the difference in music and show structures among different countries

-Practice time! Putting a show together

-Bonus Add-On Mini-Class with Leeza:

-Dancing with Finger Cymbals to Live Music

-Do you find finger cymbals frightening? Is the thought of playing finger cymbals with a live band enough to send you running for the hills? Maybe you just want to brush up on your cymbals? You're not alone. In this mini class with Leeza, you'll learn some of the most used cymbal patterns and apply them to two classic songs with live music to see how it fits together when assembling your show for a powerful, lively entrance.

Dinner show with band and performers. Buffet style dinner, cash bar, performances by workshop participants. Show tickets $47 in advance by November 1st.
