From: Sing Out Loud FestivalFree events featuring Pokey LaFarge, The Watson Twins, and the St. Augustine Record Fair add to the stellar lineup of activities during St. Augustine’s Annual Month of Music
St. Augustine, FL - This September, Sing Out Loud Festival continues to offer a spectacular array of free headliner performances and community events. Highlights include a free concert by the eclectic troubadour Pokey LaFarge at Colonial Oak Music Park on Friday, September 13, and the enchanting duo, The Watson Twins, performing at Spinster Abbott’s on Saturday, September 14. The festival's free programming continues into the second weekend with the St. Augustine Record Fair, presented by ToneVendor Records, at The St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Sunday, September 15.
In a world where music genres constantly evolve, Pokey LaFarge stands as a testament to the enduring charm of traditional American music. His blend of early jazz, ragtime, country blues, and Western swing creates a unique sound that transports listeners to a bygone era, all while remaining fresh and relevant in today's music scene. His new album, Rhumba Country, exemplifies LaFarge’s bold exploration of music - it is a kaleidoscope of sound informed by his love of music from far-ranging eras and corners of the globe, including mambo, tropicália, rocksteady, and mid-century American rock-n-roll. Pokey LaFarge will play Colonial Oak Music Park on Friday, September 13. This event is free and open to the public.
Just the next day, identical twins Chandra and Leigh Watson of The Watson Twins will perform a free showcase at Spinster Abbott’s on Saturday, September 14. The Watson Twins have carved a unique niche in the contemporary music scene with their mesmerizing harmonies and evocative storytelling. Their blend of folk, country, and indie rock has earned them a dedicated following and critical acclaim, making them a prominent fixture in modern Americana. With numerous appearances on albums by Jenny Lewis, Harry Connick Jr., and others, The Watson Twins have woven themselves into the 21st century musical fabric. Their latest album, Holler, finds them returning to their own space again - not only as singers, but as writers and frontwomen, too. Holler is a high-spirited album with songs about highs, heartaches, harmonies, and the joy of togetherness that translate into a joyful, fun show.
The St. Augustine Record Fair will return to the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Sunday, September 15. Presented by ToneVendor Records, the Record Fair is where music lovers and collectors can find that limited-edition vinyl, 90’s tour poster, vintage rock t-shirt, even cassette tapes and record players. Along with dozens of vendors, there will be onsite screen-printing, sets by DJ Papi Disco, food trucks, the St. Johns County Book Mobile, and more. This all-ages event is free and open to the public.
Free shows and community events are pillars of Sing Out Loud, as are local artist showcases, the music business panel and the St. Augustine Songwriters Festival. These events, in addition to Sing Out Loud’s marquee Live Wildly Showcase at Francis Field on Sept. 21 & 22, are the foundations of what makes Sing Out Loud a beloved celebration of music and community in the Nation’s Oldest City.
