State Archives Celebrates American Archives Month In October

The State Archives of the State Historical Society of North joins archives around the country in celebrating American Archives Month in October. American Archives Month focuses on the importance of records of enduring value and recognizes people and programs responsible for maintaining our communities’ vital historical records.

“Join us to learn more about how our staff make your history accessible to you,?” said Shane Molander, state archivist.

Free public programs are available throughout October.

- Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the State Archives on Oct. 10 at 10:30 a.m. or Oct 24 at 2:30 p.m. The 60-minute tours are limited. Reserve a spot at https://forms.office.com/g/M6F0pLdEfS, contact [email protected], or call 701.328.2091.

- Follow State Archives on Facebook and Twitter as we and other libraries, archives, museums, sites, and institutions celebrate with fun North Dakota-specific hashtags and posts.

- Archivists will showcase treasures from the archival collections in the State Museum’s Corridor of History on Oct. 4, 12, 20, and 25 between 9 and 11 a.m.

- Prairie Public’s "Dakota Datebook" will present history stories featuring content from the State Archives. Check out stories at news.prairiepublic.org/podcast/dakota-datebook.

The State Archives is located in the North Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck. Hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and the second Saturday of each month, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The ND Heritage Center & State Museum is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information, visit history.nd.gov/archives or call 701.328.2091.
