From: New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy“52 years ago on May 2nd, New Jersey State Trooper and Vietnam War veteran Werner Foerster was viciously murdered in the line of duty by Joanne Chesimard, who, after her conviction, escaped from prison and fled to Cuba. Trooper Foerster was a man of remarkable courage and heroism who demonstrated an unwavering devotion to serving his state and nation. Not a day goes by when we do not mourn his loss.
“On this somber anniversary, we extend our deepest sympathies to Trooper Foerster’s widow, Rosie, his son, Eric, and his friends and colleagues in the New Jersey State Police. As we honor his memory, our commitment to justice has never wavered. More than half a century later, we continue to pursue his murderer’s repatriation to New Jersey to face the consequences of her actions.”
