Statement from Republican Party of Minnesota on Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan's U.S. Senate Bid

Government and Politics

“Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan’s decision to run for U.S. Senate is both astonishing and revealing. Under her leadership, Minnesota has faced historic tax increases, declining educational outcomes, rampant fraud, and extreme policies that have made life harder for families and businesses alike. Now, rather than addressing the challenges she helped create, she is seeking a promotion to Washington.

Flanagan played a central role in the mismanagement of Minnesota’s $18 billion budget surplus, which was squandered while she and Governor Walz raised taxes by another $10 billion—placing an even greater financial burden on hardworking Minnesotans. Meanwhile, our schools have continued to decline, now ranking below Mississippi in key academic performance metrics, with test scores falling every year she has been in office.

Minnesota’s state government has become so overrun with fraud that federal regulators have taken notice. Under Walz and Flanagan, we’ve seen the Feeding Our Future scandal, daycare fraud, and a growing list of schemes totaling over $650 million in taxpayer losses. Their failure to govern responsibly is exactly why voters rejected Tim Walz as a potential vice-presidential candidate and why they will reject Peggy Flanagan at the ballot box.

Instead of offering real solutions, Flanagan now asks Minnesotans to reward her with a seat in the U.S. Senate. The reality is clear: Minnesota cannot afford more of the same failed leadership. This election will give voters the opportunity to reject the tax hikes, fraud, declining schools, and radical policies she championed and instead choose a path toward prosperity, accountability, and common-sense governance.”
