Chair Barnes condemns Trump and his promised tariffs that could cost Michiganders

LANSING — With Trump vowing to impose dramatic tariffs on all goods from Canada, Mexico, and China, Michigan workers and their families are about to see a devastating spike in the cost of everyday goods. Despite his many promises to help Michiganders, this Trump tax will raise the cost of living and worsen inflation for Michiganders across the board. 

“Trump’s proposed tariff would be a disaster for hard-working Michigan families,” said Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes. “This Trump tax would mean basic necessities like baby formula and milk will become egregiously expensive — costing Michiganders across the state thousands every year. As Michiganders head into the grocery store to prepare for the holidays, make no mistake, all of us are going to see a dramatic increase in the cost of living because of Trump’s plan in the coming year.

“Michiganders and Americans alike deserve better from our president than this, and Michigan Republicans should answer for this plan that will inevitably make life more expensive for us here in Michigan.”
