Washington State Democrats Statement on 60th Anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid
Seattle, WA - In response to the 60th Anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid (known as Apple Health in Washington state), Washington State Democrats Chair Shasti Conrad released the following statement:
“For 60 years, Medicaid and Medicare have been a lifeline for millions of Washingtonians who rely on these programs for lifesaving health care. These programs are a reflection of our values - that everyone should have access to quality, affordable coverage in their times of need, no matter their age or their income. However, today, Donald Trump and House Republicans threaten to eviscerate this security. The Republican budget rips away essential care from Washingtonians to give more tax handouts to billionaires. 330,000 Washingtonians alone will lose health insurance because of Donald Trump’s budget. On this anniversary of Medicaid and Medicare, the Washington State Democrats will not stand idly by while Donald Trump creates a health care crisis for our neighbors. Democrats will continue to fight tooth and nail against Republicans’ heinous attacks on health care until every Washingtonian has the coverage they deserve.”
The Washington State Democratic Party is committed to advancing progressive policy, empowering the grassroots, and ensuring Democratic victories up and down the ballot. Chair of the Washington Democrats, Shasti Conrad, is the first Indian-American woman to chair a major state party and led the most successful Democratic state party in 2024.
