Chair Conrad Statement on NY State Rep. Zohran Mamdani’s Projected Victory in NYC Democratic Mayor Primary
Seattle, WA - On June 25, 2025, Chair Shasti Conrad released the following statement regarding New York State Representative Zohran Mamdani’s projected victory in the Democratic primary for New York City Mayor:
“I want to congratulate New York state Rep. Zohran Mamdani on an impressive victory in the New York Democratic mayoral primary. His campaign exuded excellence - combining sharp storytelling with bold, clear policies like a rent freeze, expanded tenant protections, public power, and fare-free transit.
“It was powered by small-dollar contributions and a public finance system that democratizes elections - a bulwark against corporations and billionaires who believe the ballot box can be bought.
“These ideas resonated across faith and identity, Black and brown communities, young and old, business owners and entrepreneurs, renters and homeowners alike.
“Mamdani’s success opens a door to possibility in New York and slams it shut on Andrew Cuomo - a bully, a sexual harasser, and a man who believed he was owed the mayorship rather than someone willing to earn it. Democrats cannot make electability a shield for men who behave like Donald Trump. Winning matters, but never at the expense of our values - especially when it comes to protecting women.
“No city or community is identical, but Democrats across the country can reflect on this moment and line up their values behind candidates who offer a real rebuttal to the status quo - candidates who propose transformational policies that drive economic growth and replace stale ideas with solution-oriented action.”
