From: Summit Downtown, Inc.Berry Bake-Off Contest at Summit Farmers Market on June 18
Summit Downtown, Inc. (SDI) is proud to announce the schedules of Sunday Funday at the Summit Farmers Market. The first Sunday Funday contest of the 2023 season is on Sunday, June 18 with a Berry Bake-Off with a special guest judge, author John Holl. Participants are invited to showcase their culinary skills by creating unique and flavorful dishes that highlight the sweet and juicy flavors of strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and other seasonal berries. While cakes, pies and muffins are allowed, judging criteria will include creativity in the use of the berries.
This contest is open to all who love to cook, whether they are professional chefs or passionate home cooks. The only requirement is that the dish must feature the chosen berry as the main ingredient, and it must be prepared and presented with creativity and flair.
Judges will evaluate each dish based on taste, presentation, originality, and overall appeal. After the dishes are judged, the public will be able to sample them! Bakers and chefs are invited to bring their best berry dish to the Summit Farmers Market by 10:45AM. Pre-registering is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome! To register for the contest, please visit https://bit.ly/SFMBerryBake-Off. All dishes must be made from scratch and no canned ingredients or boxed mixed are allowed. Entrants must bring a copy of their recipe to the contest with them. The winners will receive Summit Farmers Market Fun Money to be spent at the market.
Judging begins at 11AM. The panel of judges will be comprised of local chefs and friends of Summit. Special guest, John Holl, esteemed author of The Craft Brewery Cookbook, The Craft Beer Cookbook and Dishing up New Jersey, 150 Recipes from the Garden State will be signing his books from 9am-11am and then judging the dishes in the contest. Stop by and say hello! Our resident DJ, Mr. Socks will be spinning tunes from 8am-10am with a special appearance by Heavy Metal Harry giving out books and prizes. Don’t miss this special day!
The next Sunday Funday activity will be the Somethin’ Pumpkin Contest on Sunday, September 24, with special guest Produce Pete, followed by a Family Photo Day on Sunday, October 29.
The market is run by SDI and is located in the Park & Shop Lot #1, at the corner of DeForest Avenue and Woodland. It is open every Sunday through December 17 from 8AM -1PM (8am-12pm in December). For more information about the market, click here.
