Swim for Life Prayer Ribbons in Orlando

Clubs and Organizations

June 21, 2023

From: Provincetown Community Compact

Greetings Friends of the Swim for Life,

Happy Juneteenth!

As we approach the summer and the 36th Swim for Life & Paddler Flotilla on September 9, we were honored once again to bring the Prayer Ribbons to Orlando to commemorate the 49 victims of the Pulse nightclub massacre in 2016 (see above newscast). The ribbons were installed in front of Orlando City Hall at a ceremony with Mayer Buddy Dyer on June 9.

The Prayer Ribbons were born at the 1993 Swim on the Boatslip deck to honor those we love - both living and deceased. We now have 4,000 Ribbons, each with a personal message. This beautiful, kinetic sculpture is installed at the event to visually witness our community. Would you like to inscribe a ribbon? Thank you.

We appreciate those who have registered for this year's Swim - a Provincetown tradition and fundraiser. Please join us as swimmers, kayakers, volunteers, walkers and cheerleaders on Saturday morning, September 9, followed by our famous Mermaid Brunch with Far Land Provisions and Zoe Lewis!

Take the Plunge! Please share your posts: @ptownswim #ptownswim

Peace,

Jay
