Taos Workshop: Tapestry in Taos

October 3-5, 2023 with Rebecca Mezoff

Join Rebecca Mezoff for a three-day workshop in beautiful Taos, New Mexico. In this class we’ll use the desert southwest landscape as an inspiration to weave images about our experiences here. For newer tapestry weavers, Rebecca will provide a sample project for ideas as you practice tapestry techniques.

For more advanced weavers, Rebecca will encourage you to weave an image based on something you’ve experienced on your stay in Taos. We will use Taos Wools’ hand-dyed Chica Weight yarn for our creations. The suggested project will make use of hatching, gradation, and simple forms. We’ll troubleshoot shedding problems and talk about tapestry techniques to use to achieve a desired affect throughout the workshop.

Experience required: For this workshop you must have woven some tapestry before. I’m assuming you can warp a loom and understand how to make basic forms in tapestry weaving using meet and separate. The workshop is appropriate for advanced beginner and intermediate tapestry weavers.

Materials to bring

Your normal weaving tools to include tapestry fork, small shed stick, yarn needle, scissors. If you have a portable tapestry loom, you might consider bringing it so you can take any work in progress home with you. There will be loaner looms available (Mirrix Saffrons), but if you are not finished with your tapestry at the end of the workshop, you’ll have to cut off whatever you have done to return the loom.
