Airport Investment benefits Aviators & Granbury Residents

Funding for expansion of the City-owned Granbury Regional Airport was unanimously approved by City Council during their Dec. 6 meeting. It is the latest step in following a Master Plan which improves the Airport facilities and continues to increase the positive economic impact the Airport has on the City and surrounding area.

Following a detailed presentation by Pat Stewart, City of Granbury Director of Aviation, Council approved up to $3.9 million dollars for a new Terminal/Fixed Base Operator (FBO) near the new mile-long runway and approximately $3 million for the paving and utilities to complete Archer Court, the road to the new Terminal/FBO.

An “FBO” is essentially a private airplane terminal, securely providing airplane parking, fuel and other services to aviators. Granbury currently has an FBO. Since the opening of the new runway on Nov. 3, 2022, dozens of larger planes are now regularly using the Granbury Regional Airport, leading to increased fuel sales by the City and the need for a new, larger, safer FBO. The new Archer Court and FBO is scheduled for completion near the end of 2023.

In 2013, TxDOT’s Aviation division estimated the Granbury Regional Airport’s annual economic impact on the community was $17 million. That number is expected to triple in 2023 and beyond. This can be explained as people using the Airport also shop in Granbury businesses, eat at Granbury restaurants, and stay in Granbury hotels. Their visits to the area, via the Airport, benefit local business owners, employees and Granbury residents.

“I appreciate the foresight shown by previous and present City Councils, Airport Advisory Boards, City management, and the local aviation community. They have enabled the expansion of the Granbury Regional Airport. Their investments will have positive returns for decades to come,” Stewart said.  

New terms begin for Mayor and Councilmember

New name on City Council

Mayor Pro Tem Trish Burwell (formerly Reiner) was recently married and also reelected by fellow councilmembers to serve as the Mayor Pro Tem. Congratulations MPT Burwell!
