Guy Davis Community Park Improvements Unveiled

Calvin, Giordano & Associates, Inc. presented the Guy Davis Park Park Design and Master Plan Components to residents, community leaders and city commissioners on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at the 10th Street Community Center in East Stuart.

Site understanding, site issues and constraints, drainage framework, public and outreach survey results were summarized, which were the basis of plan components presented in the plan. Design components incorporate sculptures, signage, murals, mosaics, paving/hardscape treatments, concrete embedments, spaces for reflection to support the following six community themes identified in public workshops and outreach:

- Celebrating Women in Leadership
- Celebrating Migration of Pioneer Families
- Celebrating Mr. Guy Davis
- Celebrating Educators
- Celebrating the Impact of Sports
- Celebrating Historic Black Businesses

Design highlights for Phase 1 of the base park include: a multi-purpose sports field, linear trail network with sports plaques, picnic area with barbecue racks, shaded pavilion areas, multi-purpose stage area with small and large event lawns, flexible central lawn area for markets and pop-up events, pervious concrete parking lot with pavers, fitness trail loop with Vitacourse equipment, re-surfaced playground with aquatic play equipment, a concession, restroom and storage building, and park signage.  

Phase 2 of the master plan was outlined and optional components were suggested, which included a community dog park, skate park, parking and streetscape improvements, and city-wide wayfinding for historic black-owned businesses. 

Design and construction costs are estimated at $5,502,131.84.

Calvin, Giordano & Associates, Inc. will present the final design Monday, January 23, 2023, 4 p.m. at the Special Meeting of the Stuart City Commission Community Redevelopment Agency and Community Redevelopment Board, which will be held in Commission Chambers, 121 SW Flagler Avenue, Stuart, 34994.

Attend a Composting Workshop; Receive an At-Home Composter

The next round of composting workshops is scheduled for Tuesday, January 31, 6-7 p.m. and Saturday, February 18, 10-11 a.m. When you attend one of the 1-hour workshops, you're eligible to receive a FREE at-home composter to turn your vegetable and yard scraps into compost for your lawn or garden!

This program is a collaboration between the City of Stuart and the University of Flroida IFAS Extension in Martin County. Only City of Stuart residents are eligible to receive the free compost tumbler provided as part of this program. (Tumbler remains property of The City of Stuart.)

Neighborhood Cleanup This Weekend for West Riverside, Historic Downtwon & Krueger West Residential Neighborhoods

The City of Stuart will host its Neighborhood Cleanup for West Riverside, Historic Downtown and Krueger West residential neighborhoods this Saturday, January 21, 2023, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

During the cleanup, City of Stuart sanitation trucks will comb the streets of these neighborhoods to collect bulk items, such as appliances and furniture, miscellaneous trash, and yard waste that residents place at the curb. There is no fee for the extra pickups during this event.

The Martin County HazMobile will be parked at the host location in the empty lot at Hildabrand Park on Riverside Drive for the convenient drop-off of household hazardous waste such as paints, oils, and household cleaners. Residents may also bring old electronics for recycling to this same location.

Road Construction Notices

Full Closure of Poppleton Creek Entrance at SR-76/Kanner Highway Rescheduled for Third Time 
Now Scheduled for Jan. 31 -Feb. 7 

FDOT planned watermain work at SR-76/Kanner Highway and Poppleton Creek Intersection previously scheduled to begin January 3, 2023, has been rescheduled for Jan. 31 - Feb. 7, 2023. The entrance to Poppleton Creek at southbound SR-76/Kanner Highway will be closed around the clock through approximately 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 31 through 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 7.  Contingency dates, if needed, are Tuesday, Feb. 7 through Feb. 15.

During construction, traffic will be rerouted as follows: 

- Northbound SR-76/Kanner Highway traffic will be detoured via SR-714/Monterey Road and SW Palm City Road to the Poppleton Creek entrance at SW Riverview Street

- Southbound SR-76/Kanner Highway traffic will be detoured via SR-5/US-1 and SW Palm City Road to the Poppleton Creek entrance at SW Riverview Street

- Southbound SR-5/US 1 traffic will be detoured via SW Palm City Road to the Poppleton Creek entrance at SW Riverview Street

- Northbound SR-5/US-1 traffic will be detoured via SW Palm City Road to the Poppleton Creek entrance at SW Riverview Street

Southbound Kanner Highway at U.S. 1 Rescheduled Now For Friday, Jan 27 - Monday, Jan 30.

FDOT has announced the rescheduling of the full closure of SR-76/Kanner Highway at SR-5/US-1 to take place Jan. 27, 2023, through Monday, Jan. 30, 2023. If needed, contingency dates are Friday, Feb. 3 through Monday, Feb. 6.

Beginning at 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 27 2023, southbound SR-76/Kanner Highway at the intersection of SR-5/US-1, will be closed around-the-clock through approximately 6:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 30, 2023, for watermain and roadway work.  

- Southbound SR-5/US-1 traffic will be detoured via SR-714/Monterey Road to SR-76/Kanner Highway

- Northbound SR-5/US-1 traffic will be detoured via SR-714/Monterey Road to SR-76/Kanner Highway

Project Improvements Include:

- Milling and resurfacing the existing roadway; some minor widening will occur along northbound and southbound SR 76/Kanner Highway
Upgrade crosswalks and curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards
- Install sidewalks, signage and pavement markings
- Upgrade pedestrian lighting at two signalized intersections at SR 714/Monterey Road and SR 5/US 1
- Upgrade or restore drainage pipes and replace sections of the City of Stuart’s watermain at various locations

SE Monterey Road Extension Scheduled Friday, Jan 22 - Monday, Jan 27, 2023

As part of the City of Stuart annual Pavement Maintenance Program, the City will be completing essential road repairs and restoration at the SE Monterey Road Extension, from SE Monterey Road east to SE Federal Highway. 

Work is scheduled to begin during the evening hours (7 p.m. - 6 a.m.) the week of Jan. 22 through Jan. 27, 2023 (weather permitting).

The roadway is scheduled to be open (one lane at all times) for thru-traffic with Maintenance of Traffic equipment/devices in-place during the evening construction and opened entirely during the day.
