From: City of West Palm BeachWest Palm Beach, FL - The City of West Palm Beach's Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is proud to announce the ribbon-cutting event for Flagler Station, the City's newest affordable/workforce housing development. The event will mark the official opening of this mixed-use housing project, strategically located at the gateway to the City's Downtown and Historic Northwest sectors. The design of Flagler Station not only activates the public realm but also incorporates a pedestrian-oriented layout, paying homage to the historical architectural vernacular of the area.
Flagler Station’s included linear park pays homage to the vast railroad network referenced in its name through an outdoor public art display. An included “micro-mobility” station provides a storage area for bicycles, scooters, and other methods of alternative transportation. This feature is in line with the City’s mobility plan to make West Palm Beach a more “commuter-friendly” city and will also support residents’ transportation to and from work.
The City's Housing and Community Development Department (HCD) played a vital role in making Flagler Station a reality by contributing $75,000 in HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) funds toward the project. Additionally, Palm Beach County generously contributed an additional $550,000 in HOME Investment Partnership Program funds, solidifying the collaborative efforts of both the public and private sectors.
"Flagler Station is an example of the great work that can be achieved when both the public and private sectors work together for the good of our community," stated West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James. "Providing affordable living options to our growing West Palm Beach population continues to be a top priority, and we look forward to launching this new community."
The ribbon cutting event for Flagler Station will take place on Monday, August 7, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the development's location, 991 Banyan Blvd. The ceremony will include remarks from Mayor Keith A. James, representatives from the City's Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), and other key stakeholders. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the community, witness its unique design elements, and celebrate the achievement of providing quality affordable/workforce housing for the residents of West Palm Beach.
