World Ocean Day is celebrated annually on June 8 to bring awareness to ocean conservation efforts. We are expanding this day with our World Ocean Week celebration! Here are just some of the festivities we have planned:

Guests can help local artist and activist Kat Owens create a life-sized portrait of the humpback whale as part of her "Entangled and Ingested" project.

Our Pledge. Our Ocean. | June 5 - 11
Take action by signing a pledge in support of the global commitment to protect 30% of our blue planet by 2030 – also known as the 30x30 pledge. Kids' voices can be heard too by adding their names to our interactive pledge wall!
Zero-Waste Sculpture Display | Starting June 5
Check out several amazing upcycled coral reef sculptures – created by local artist Rachel DeCavage – that highlight the cost of plastic pollution.

Join us on a family-friendly Marine Life Encounter Cruise on Sat., June 3 or Sun., June 4 for a hands-on look at Long Island Sound's marine life.
Celebrate International Horseshoe Crab Day with Us
June 20 at 6 p.m.
There is no better way to celebrate International Horseshoe Crab Day than by joining The Maritime Aquarium for a walk at Sherwood Island in hopes of seeing these amazing animals. Led by an educator, you will learn about the life history of the horseshoe crab, the role they play in the ecosystem, their conservation status here in Connecticut, and what actions you can take to protect this important animal.

We are seeking energetic volunteers who love interacting with both people and animals to join the team as summer stewards!
As part of this fun-filled summer, stewards will educate guests about Long Island Sound and create memorable experiences at the Aquarium’s touch tanks by facilitating interactions with stingrays, jellies, crabs, and more.
