Schools and Libraries

August 8, 2023

From: Topsfield Town Library

Tonight!

Please join us at 5:30pm in the library Activity Room for a presentation on Eastern Europe in the Middle Ages by Tufts University professor and Topsfield resident, Dr. Alice Isabella Sullivan.  Dr. Sullivan will speak about her research on the Middle Ages in Eastern Europe and why now, perhaps more than ever given the war in Ukraine, looking at the early history of the region is important.

Didgeridoo Down Under!

Do you come from a land down under?

The DDU Show is an energetic fusion of Australian music, culture, puppetry, comedy, character building, storytelling and audience movement / participation. The didgeridoo has been played by Aboriginal Australians for at least 1,500 years, and is known for its otherworldly sound. But DDU is much more than music. It’s interactive, educational, motivational and super fun – perfect for kids and families!

Summer Reading ends THIS WEEK! Are you just a square away from earning another chance at that $50 Hotels.com gift card? Here are some quick reads that can help you fill in those final squares!

Square: "Around the World in 80 Days"

Treasure Island

By Robert Louis Stevenson

Pirates and Summer Reading go hand in hand don't they? And at a quick 254 pages, you can definitely finish it in a day (or two)!

Square: "Travel to Another World"

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
By Douglas Adams

Another quick 200-or-so page book that will keep you entertained on a summer afternoon!

Square: "Not Lost in Translation"

The Complete Persepolis
By Marjane Satrapi

This book may also qualify for your "Adventurous Reader" square, if you have never picked up a graphic novel, or "Personal Exploration" square, as it is a coming-of-age story. It clocks in at 341 pages, but as a graphic novel, it makes for a faster read.

"Edgy, searingly observant, and candid, often heartbreaking but threaded throughout with raw humor and hard-earned wisdom--Persepolis is a stunning work from one of the most highly regarded, singularly talented graphic artists at work today."
