Nando's is Coming to Addison

The City Council approved a special use permit for Nando's in Village on the Parkway at its January 10 meeting. Nando’s is a fast-casual restaurant specializing in South African flavors. Founded in Johannesburg in 1987, it is known for its flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken and sauces. The restaurant, which showcases its Afro-Portuguese heritage through its food offerings, vibrant colors, and décor, has the largest collection of contemporary South African art in the world that is on display in its restaurants.

There are currently 48 Nando's locations within the United States. The Addison restaurant would be their third Texas location and first in the Dallas/Fort Worth market. The space was previously The Saffron House.

California-based, Technology-Driven Vet Clinic to Open in Prestonwood Shopping Center

Modern Animal, a technology-driven veterinary care provider, received CIty Council approval at the January 10 meeting for a special use permit that will pave the way for their newest location in Prestonwood Shopping Center. Incorporated in 2018 in California, the first clinic did not open until 2020 due to the pandemic, but the company has experienced rapid growth since. Modern Animal currently has six clinics in California, two locations coming soon to Austin, and two locations coming soon to Dallas/Fort Worth, including the Addison location.

Modern Animal uses a membership model for basic services, such as exams, telemedicine, and digital tools for pet owners. The clinic provides general practice veterinary care for canines and felines. Services offered on site include exams and diagnostics, vaccinations, surgery, and dental care. Modern Animal does not board pets overnight and does not offer grooming or cosmetic services.

Three-Story Building Approved for Village on the Parkway

In 2020, the City Council approved development plans for a two-story office/retail building in Village on the Parkway in the vacant lot adjacent to Whole Foods. The proposed structure was never constructed. At the January 10 Council meeting, the property owner requested, and the City Council approved, a modification to the development plans to allow the expansion of the project to a three-story office/retail building. The proposed structure will have offices on the second and third floors and a mix of retail and restaurant space on the ground floor. The new plans reorient the building on the site to allow for open space at the front of the building, move parking to the rear of the building, and feature a new building facade.

CWD Gives 2021 Annual Report

Since 2015, Community Waste Disposal (CWD) has partnered with Addison to provide garbage and recycling services to approximately 1,800 single-family residents. At the January 10 City Council Meeting, CWD’s Municipal Coordinator Robert Medigovich gave an annual review for 2021 on the company’s services, recycling efforts, and awards.

CWD collects trash twice a week on Monday and Thursday and recycling once a week on Monday. During 2021, CWD only received 12 inquiries from Addison residents and one driver incident report. Residents recycled a total of 395 tons, which equates to the following saved resources:

- 6,715 Trees
- 150,100 Gallons of Oil
- 2,765,000 Gallons of Water
- 1,304 Yards of Landfill Space
- 1,619,500 Kilowatt Hours of Electricity

CWD partners with Addison’s Special Events Department to offer recycling at Taste Addison, Kaboom Town!, and Oktoberfest. The success of these efforts earned a 2022 Extraordinary Recycling at Special Events award from the State of Texas Alliance for Recycling (STAR). STAR is a nonprofit whose mission is to advance recycling through partnerships, education, and advocacy for the benefit of Texas.
