From: Town Of Castle RockCRPD announces summer Dirt Jumps and Donuts schedule
Spend your summer shredding with the Castle Rock Police Department’s bike unit! CRPD announces its 2023 Dirt Jumps and Donuts schedule.
“This event started as a way for us to give Castle Rock families a fun and active outlet during the summer,” Community Partnership Officer Jake Coyle said. “For us, it’s about building relationships and bonding over a love for biking.”
CRPD will host its first Dirt Jumps and Donuts event of 2023 on June 8. Other dates this summer include June 15, July 6, July 20 and August 17. Events take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rhyolite Park, located at 1701 Crystal Valley Parkway. Every gathering is free and open to the public.
“At our first event back in 2017, we had seven participants,” Officer Coyle said. “We are proud to see how much Dirt Jumps and Donuts has grown in the past few years. We average more than 50 participants an event, but have had as many as 127 show up for an evening of riding.”
Officer Coyle’s inspiration for Dirt Jumps and Donuts came from his background in mountain biking. Prior to joining the Castle Rock Police Department, he raced mountain bikes professionally and took part in dirt jump competitions.
“For me, the most rewarding part of these events is connecting with our residents,” Officer Coyle said. “Kids can ask questions, acquire new skills and learn about bike safety from our team.”
There are currently 15 Castle Rock Police officers who are certified as public safety cyclists through the International Police Mountain Bike Association.
Dirt Jumps and Donuts participants ride at their own risk. All riders should remember to bring their bike, helmet and plenty of water. Donuts are generously provided by The Donut House in Castle Rock.
