Countdown to First Night

With less than 24 hours to go to the kick off of First Night you should have your button in hand and your plan in place to experience all the sights, sounds and activities taking place.

Residents and visitors attending “First Night Chatham” are reminded that the majority of Town-wide events occur on December 31. Listed below are scheduled events that will require TEMPORARY road closings and parking restrictions throughout the Town.

11:15 am – 12:30 pm Traffic will be heavy and detoured (if needed) at the Lighthouse Lot for the Town Photograph.

2:30 pm-4 pm: Carnival Caper Road Race.  Main Street from Cross Street to Shore Road will be closed during this event.  There will also be other temporary closures and detours along the race route.  School Street, Silverleaf Ave., Bridge Street, and Lower Main Street will be temporarily closed during this event.  All participants are reminded to arrive early for this event.

5:30 pm: Noise Parade-Early Fireworks Starting at 5:30pm Main Street will be closed from Cross Street to Adams Lane.    The Parade will lead into Veteran’s Field through the main entrance to the Chatham Community Center. Roadways will reopen after all parade participants have cleared the roadways. There may be temporary closing after early fireworks have ended.  Depot Road (in the area of the Fire Department) will be closed during the fireworks.

Chatham Police Officers will be assigned to all events that require roadway closures and detours.  We encourage the public to arrive early, and utilize public transportation, and park in public lots, or authorized areas.

We are asking for the public’s patience and cooperation during this annual event.  The Chatham Police Department would like to wish everyone a HAPPY AND SAFE NEW YEAR!

Shuttles will be running a loop route (1 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.) from the Rotary next to Rockland Trust Bank to the Monomoy Regional Middle School, via Old Harbor Road, Depot Road, Crowell Road, and return via Crowell Road, Queen Anne Road, Pond Street, and Stage Harbor Road back to the bank. One bus is handicapped accessible.

The last day to schedule the pick-up and disposal of your Christmas tree by Chatham Boy Scout Troop 71 is January 2nd for pickup the weekend of January 7th-8th.

It's an easy way to support the yearly activities and adventures of our Scouts and takes one thing off of your post holiday to-do list. Just fill out the online form; remove all ornaments, lights, decorations, tinsel, etc. from the tree; place your tree curbside by 8 a.m. on January 7th, and if you won't be around when the tree is collected, leave your donation in an envelope at your door. Pick-up is available in Chatham, Harwich, and Orleans.
