Highlights from the Fall 2022 Citizens Police Academy in Marana

MARANA- Are you looking to get more involved in your community in this new year? Sign up for the next Citizens Police Academy to learn more about the Marana Police Department and what it takes to make the Town of Marana a safe place to visit, work and raise a family.

The Marana Police Department will hold the next Citizens Police Academy from February 1, 2023 to April 26, 2023. The 13 week class is held on Wednesdays from 6:00-9:30 p.m. in the Marana Police Department’s Community Room located at 11555 W Civic Center Dr, Marana, AZ 85653.

The course is designed to give citizens and the business community a better understanding of the department and its operations through classroom instruction and hands-on experiences.

Applications are now being accepted.

Some of the topics covered in the class include (to name a few) :

- Introduction to Command Staff

- Patrol duties

- Firearms

- Criminal Investigations

- K-9 Unit

COMMUNITY PARTNERS: Local group helped raise thousands for MUSD students and families

Hundreds of local students and dozens of families received some help during the holidays through the 2022 Holiday Share donation drive.

The Youth Education Supporters (YES) partner with Marana Unified School District to collect donations from the community for the drive.

They handed out those gifts and donations on December 16, 2022. Through the campaign, nearly 300 families received help. 174 families through school site partner adoptions and 111 through the Family Resource Center Child Wish Program.

832 children participated in Holiday Share and 70 families attended the Holiday Sharing Day event,

Families received a gift card to purchase a holiday main dish and a bag of holiday food from the Family Resource Center.

Dozens of community donors contributed more than $6,000 in cash donations and more than $1,300 in gift card donations to the cause.

MARANA- A local volunteer group is kicking off its holiday campaign to help students in need in the Marana Unified School District.

The Holiday Share donation drive started on November 1, 2022. The Youth Education Supporters (YES) have partnered with MUSD to help more than 900 students this holiday season.

The group aims to provide those students with a gifts, toys and/or clothes. They are looking for people in Marana to adopt a student or send money to help them purchase these gifts.

MUSD elves will shop for any qualified students who are not adopted. There are also families in need of a holiday meal. Donations will also go towards purchasing Fry’s or Walmart gift cards for food.

Expect to spend between $75 to $100 per student. You will shop, place the unwrapped gift in a black trash bag, include the student identification and deliver the gift to the Family Resource Center by December 2nd.

UPDATE: Unwrapped presents are being accepted until December 12th.

Students will receive their gifts on December 16th.
