On April 2nd, Donald Trump announced a wide-breadth of tariffs that will impact goods imported from numerous countries and will further drive up the ballooning cost of living Arizonans are struggling to keep up with. These tariffs come as the cost of living, inflation, and unemployment have all surged in the few months President Trump has been in office. 

“Trump’s Liberation Day will feel like a day of incarceration for the millions of Americans who are already drowning in debt and struggling to keep up with the cost of living,” said Arizona Democratic Party Chairman Robert E. Branscomb. “Donald Trump has taken an axe to working-class families’ protections, stripping funding for healthcare, increasing inflation, and making the cost of living more expensive. People are furious this Administration is doing nothing for them, and we are going to continue to organize and fight back against the disastrous policies Trump and Musk are pushing.” 

Trump himself admitted his $100 billion national tax will cause “pain” for working families and he “can’t guarantee” his reckless plans won’t jack up costs. The pain is being felt right here in Arizona: 

• Arizona’s unemployment rate hit 4% for the first time since late 2021, with over 10,000 Arizonans applying for unemployment. 
• Trump tariff war is going to hit Arizonans at the grocery store, gas pump, and local business– but it’s also a direct attack on Arizona farmers as key agricultural imports, such as fertilizers, pesticides, and machinery, become more expensive, while exported goods and crops potentially face higher taxes. 

While increasing the cost of living, Donald Trump and Elon Musk are firing Arizonans: 

• The Trump administration fired 10 employees at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Office in Arizona.
• The Trump administration fired staff from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and veterans working for other agencies, including a Phoenix-area disabled veteran at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and aMarine Corps veteran in Phoenix working for the VA helping other veterans avoid foreclosure.
