From: Universe Multicultural Film FestivalUniverse Multicultural Film Festival is returning to Los Angeles! This three-day festival is a celebration of international cinema and culture.
UMFF has many documentaries that highlight the diversity of places near and far. San Francisco’s Balkan music scene is explored in “Balkancisco”, while short film “She Marches in Chinatown” travels north to highlight the historic Seattle Chinese Community Girls Drill Team. Moving south, “Mimy & Tony: the Creation of a Dream”, is about the Grammy nominated mother-son Japanese-Peruvian duo. The vast diversity of Brazil is explored in “Muito Amor – Jews and Judaism in Amazonia”.
UMFF has many feature films to offer, both documentary and narrative. Fantasy fans will love German fantasy-adventure “Rapunzel and the Return of the Falcons”. Filmgoers seeking more realistic fare can enjoy “Maoussi”, a dark comedy about a Congolese refugee and an escaped lab mouse in Paris.
This year, there are many films from China. “The Legend of the White Snake” is a musical inspired by the famous folktale. “Gui” is a more grounded story about a man returning to his hometown following his father’s death. The short film “Snail” is an inspirational tale of a girl’s love for painting.
Aspiring filmmakers can attend the industry led panels to hear from experienced Hollywood professionals. Award winning Chinese filmmaker will discuss how to work with Asian film markets. Actors won’t want to miss acting coach Sandra K Horner’s panel on how to have an outstanding audition. Other panelists include producer Larry Layfield (The Night They Came Home) and screenwriter Stephen David Brooks (The Mangler).
UMFF also has many exciting live performances. New-Old Soul singer Leon Jones will open the festival with the National Anthem. Action screenplay “Brothers Blood” will be performed live at the Screenplay Showcase. Mariachi Elena C Castaneda and beautiful baile folklórico dancers will dazzle crowds at the award ceremony.
Fashion is one of the most beloved forms of culture and will be on display at the red carpet. Come dressed up and take pictures with the stars. The Maeya Cultural Ambassador contest is a beauty pageant held Saturday evening. Each contestant displays an outfit from their culture. Finally, the World Sunshine Women will put on a fashion show at the award ceremony.
