MONTPELIER, VT -- The Vermont Democratic Party (VDP) has elected Jim Ramsey of Manchester, Vermont as its new Interim Party Chair. He succeeds David Glidden, who is stepping down after two years of leadership. Most recently, Ramsey has served as the Chair of Bennington County Democrats. Ramsey is President and Co-Founder of a Vermont nonprofit that raises funds for student innovation and entrepreneurship, and also brings extensive business experience as a finance executive. As VDP Chair, and a member of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), he will focus on advancing its mission, electing candidates, improving infrastructure and resources, and mobilizing grassroots support ahead of the 2026 election cycle.

“It’s an honor to be elected as Interim Chair of the Vermont Democratic Party,” said Ramsey. “I accept this role with both humility, and a strong sense of purpose in a very challenging environment for Vermont, our country, and the world. As Chair of Bennington County Democrats, I’ve helped grow our town committees, increase voter engagement, and raise the resources needed to win. We must strive to compete in every town, in every county, in every race. We must all work together to strengthen our party and build a better future for Vermont.”

Outgoing Chair David Glidden praised Ramsey’s leadership. “Jim’s skills are wonderfully aligned to meet this moment and to build the most robust, resilient party possible.”

Former Vermont Democratic Party Chairs echoed the sentiment. “During his time chairing Bennington County Democrats, Jim was an enthusiastic, can-do leader who successfully grew their reach,” shared former Chair Anne Lezak. “The VDP has a bright future under his leadership.”

“As America confronts a very real threat to our democracy, Jim has the experience and skills to build the electoral infrastructure to ensure Vermonters will be heard in Montpelier and in our nation’s capital,” said former Chair Bruce Olsson.

Vermont Democratic statewide officials also voiced their support.

State Attorney General Attorney Charity Clark said, “At this critical juncture for Vermont, Jim will bring a steady hand leading the Democratic Party forward. He has been a dedicated Democratic Party leader in Bennington County, creating community and fostering belonging.”

State Treasurer Mike Piecak said, “Jim understands that the connections between us are what makes our party strong and gives us the ability to build lasting coalitions and deliver for Vermonters. I look forward to working with Jim as the new leader of our Vermont Democratic Party—he has the energy, focus, and experience to do the work, build the team, and deliver results.”

Secretary of State Sarah Copeland Hanzas said, “The work of Vermont Democrats happens every day, not just on Election Day. Jim Ramsey understands how to engage our communities and elected leaders at all levels, and strengthen our Democratic Party for the long haul.”

The Vermont Democratic Party congratulates Chair Ramsey and thanks him for his commitment to preparing the state party for election success in 2026 and beyond. For more information, visit www.vtdemocrats.org or follow @vtdems on social media.
