Volunteer At Weir Farm NHP Now Recruiting New Volunteers For 2023

With the 2023 season fast approaching, Weir Farm is seeking friendly, reliable people interested in working with the public to provide the best possible experience to park visitors through the Volunteers-In-Parks (VIP) program. Hours are flexible and training and enrichment opportunities are provided, including new volunteer orientation training coming up in April 2023 and position specific trainings through June. Ages 13 and up are welcome to volunteer. 

How to Apply to be a Weir Farm Volunteer

Interested volunteers new to Weir Farm NHP can apply through Volunteer.gov. All positions are available on the same application, and interested volunteers only need to submit one application to be considered for multiple positions.

A Volunteer.gov account is not required to apply. Interested volunteers can apply as a guest if they do not want to make a Volunteer.gov account. 

Once the application has been submitted, the volunteer coordinator will reach out within a week to set up a short interview and a reference check.

The park is currently recruiting for the following positions:

-Tour Guide - Become a Tour Guide and introduce visitors from around world to the creative workspaces of American masters—the Weir and Young Studios! Guides staff the historic studios and engage in conversations with diverse groups of visitors, Wednesday through Sunday, May through October. Guides also assist with special events, group tours, and school groups. This opportunity is appropriate for volunteers age 18 and up.

-Phenology - Do you enjoy learning about plants and their ecosystems? Become a Phenology Volunteer and enjoy the outdoors while conducting research for a community science project at Weir Farm. Phenology is the study of change through the year in an ecosystem. This opportunity is appropriate for volunteers age 18 and up, or for youth volunteers if they are accompanied by another volunteer. 

-Trail Monitor - Trail monitors pick up trash, clear debris, and report any issues to park staff to ensure our trails are safe and free of litter. Become a Trail Monitor and enjoy a hike while helping to maintain your local national park! This opportunity is appropriate for volunteers age 18 and up, or for youth volunteers if they are accompanied by another volunteer.

-American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter - Help make programs more accessible by providing ASL interpretation for park visitors. Interpreters will be on call for accessibility requests and provide ASL interpretation for park videos and other projects. 

Youth volunteers ages 13–18 can apply for the following positions: 

 

-Take Part in Art - Great opportunity for teens! Volunteers run the wildly popular outdoor painting program on weekends, May through October. Duties include cleaning and stocking watercolor painting kits and providing basic information to visitors. This opportunity is appropriate for volunteers age 13–18.
