Government and Politics

Montpelier, VT - Earlier this week House Democrats held a Press Conference to announce that they would not advance Education Reform this year. VTGOP Chairman Paul Dame had the following response:
“This should be an absolute outrage to every Vermont taxpayer who supported their school budget this year on the assumption, signaled by Democrats, that there would be some change at the state level. Many Vermonters trusted Democrats at their word that they would work with Governor Scott and Republicans in the House & Senate to advance some kind of Education Reform this session.
If Democrats can so quickly abandon the clear directive from voters give to them just over 140 days ago it further demonstrates that they have lost their ability to lead in a time when change is not only demanded by voters - but required for the long term prosperity of Vermonters.
If Democrats won’t use their majority to advance the issues motivating Vermonters then I call on voters to consider supporting a Republican Majority in 2026 that will work with Governor Scott to make essential reforms, and keep working until we have a system that improves our educational outcomes while keeping things affordable for taxpayers.
Vermont Republicans are committed to the education and property tax reform that voters asked for last year. We will be recruiting candidates who share the Governor’s urgency to make the neccesary changes and plan to challenge dozens of Democrats who continue to drag their heels.
I will be holding a special informational session Thursday night April 3rd at 7:30pm for any one who is intersted in running as a Republican specifically for the purpose of enacting education and property tax reform instead of continually kicking the can down the road. For anyone intersted in learning, more they should go to our website to learn more about the process of running for office.
If Democrats continually refuse to lead on this issue, Republicans will pick up the slack.”
