FIRST SELECTWOMAN’S OPENING NOTE
We are saddened to share the passing of Woody Bliss, a dedicated public servant, friend, and pillar of the Weston community for over 50 years. Woody’s decades of leadership shaped our town in countless ways - from his many years as First Selectman, to his service on the Board of Finance, Board of Selectmen, and most recently, the Board of Police Commissioners. His quiet strength and unwavering commitment to Weston left a lasting legacy. Beyond Town Hall, Woody was a founding member of the Weston Historical Society, a proud member of Weston Kiwanis, an active member of Norfield Congregational Church, and treasurer of the Friends of the Weston Senior Activities Center. His life was one of service, heart, and deep community ties. Last fall, friends and colleagues gathered to celebrate Woody as he relocated to North Carolina to be closer to his daughters and grandchildren. He left with a proclamation from the Connecticut General Assembly and the warm thanks of a grateful town.

NO CASH PAYMENTS ACCEPTED AT TRANSFER STATION STARTING JULY 1
As of July 1, 2025, the Transfer station will only accept credit cards, debit cards, checks, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.  Cash will no longer be accepted.

DOG LICENSING
Dog licenses are due!  All dogs six months or older must be licensed annually by the Town Clerk. Dogs must wear the tag at all times, not only are licenses required, they can help quickly reunite a lost pet with their family.  Cost: $8.00 for a spayed or neutered dog otherwise it's $19.00 (cash or check only)

WESTON 2025 ROAD PAVING PROGRAM
Crews from the Town of Weston Department of Public Works are preparing our roads for paving this summer. This work includes cleaning and repairing existing storm water catch basins and replacing the basin tops. We appreciate your patience as this work progresses. NOTICE OF TAXES DUE

- The first installment of real estate, personal property, and motor vehicle taxes on the Grand List of October 1, 2024 is due and payable on July 1, 2025. Failure to pay by August 1, 2025 will result in a late payment with interest of 1 ½% per month starting with the July 1st due date per State Statute 12-145. Minimum interest charge is $2.00.

- Effective April 2025, The Tax Collector’s Office has transitioned to a new online payment vendor. If you utilize the autopay option you will need to create a new account due to the transfer to a new payment platform. Tax bills will be available online on June 28th.

- If you no longer have a vehicle that you received a bill for, you must present proof to the Tax Assessor 203-222-2606. Click here for more information regarding motor vehicles

- If you have any questions, please call our office at (203) 222-2694. Taxpayers have several options to pay their bill.  You can come in during town hall hours from 9 to 4:30 Monday through Friday. Alternatively, you can put your payment in the drop box outside the side entrance to the Town Hall, mail the payment, pay online at www.westonct.gov. Service fees will apply. If you did not receive a tax bill, please contact the Tax Collector. You can also check online for payment amounts at the town website noted above. Failure to receive a tax bill does not excuse the taxpayer from tax, interest, and fees (C.G.S.12-130).

FLAG DISPOSAL BIN - NEW AT THE TRANSFER STATION

There is now a Flag Disposal Bin at the Weston Transfer Station. The bin was created by Joe Travers, as part of his Eagle Scout Project. Every week a new explosion of color to check out, pleasing our pollinators and birds as well as Westonites! Most of the plants serve as larval hosts for many butterflies and are a valuable food source for bees and butterflies!

WESTON DOG PARK IS OPEN!

Please Bring your pooch and water. Please see all the Dog Park Rules here: https://www.westonct.gov/home/showdocument?id=14765&t=638816933838200126. This project utilizes 7% of the entire Moore Property -- land that was purchased by the Town more than two decades ago for $2.3 million, specifically for municipal use. The dog park construction, design, and first few years of maintenance are funded with grants (ARPA, access way and parking & Greyledge plantings), gifts from private individuals through the Weston Dog Park 501c3, as well as a contribution in memory of Brian Gordon, our former second Selectman who passed away in 2018. Recent improvements have included fixing a hole near the fence and amended opening hours to 7:30am.

LYONS PLAIN ROAD REHABILITATION

VALLEY FORGE ROAD
The purpose of this project is to protect and preserve the Valley Forge Road corridor in terms of both infrastructure asset management and neighborhood quality of life. The project limits extend from Kellogg Hill Road to Bradley Road.  The project includes many improvements which extend beyond just new pavement. The project has been developed to address not only deteriorated pavement conditions but also erosion to the roadside embankments, noted drainage concerns in select areas and at various culvert crossings, and   safety concerns   related to failing or inadequate guardrail and existing roadway alignment which provides inadequate sightline distances for drivers.  Provisions for traffic calming are also included to encourage drivers to reduce traveling speeds along the roadway.  All of these improvements are intended to preserve and protect not only the roadway but also the abutting properties and quality of life for the Valley Forge Road neighborhood.  Please click here for a fully detailed description of the project, funding, information sessions and timeline.

WESTON CONNECTIONS ART EXHIBIT

Looking for something FREE to do this July? Celebrate the arts and community at the Weston Connections Art Exhibit at the Weston Public Library. With over 55 artists represented, the talent and creativity which Weston and neighboring towns are known for, is on full display.

“We put out a call for artists and weren’t sure how many would respond. We’re delighted to have had so many submissions” commented Cindy Wagner, professional portrait artist and member of the Weston Commission for the Arts.  “The variety and quality of the work surpassed our expectations,” said fellow Commission member Nancy Klein. Two art classes are scheduled during July as well: a drawing/painting class for adults on Saturday, July 12th, and a class for children on Saturday, July 26th. Summer Reading at the Library - Color Our World!
Thru August 15
Join us for great programs and reading challenges this summer. Summer Reading begins on June 20 and is not just for kids! Earn badges through the Beanstack app by logging reading, leaving book reviews, or completing activities. Badges then translate to raffle tickets which can be entered at the Library for a chance to win prizes. If you’ve already signed up for Beanstack, use the same login to sign up for this year’s challenge. You can also earn the 2025 Summer Reading Golden Collectors Coin by completing challenges such as the Color Our World Weston-wide Scavenger Hunt (request one at the front desk)!

UKRAINIAN VILLAGE VOICES CONCERT

The Friends of the Weston Library and the Weston-Siversk Sister-City Partnership present Ukrainian Village Voices in concert, Sunday, July 20, 2025 at 4 pm at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Weston. Ukrainian Village Voices (UVV) is a New York City-based ensemble of Ukrainian and non-Ukrainian singers, whose mission is to preserve and revive the traditional polyphonic singing style of Ukraine’s villages.  UVV’s repertoire is constantly evolving, frequently focusing on seasonal celebrations, ritual songs, and lyrical music. They often sing songs recorded by ethnomusicologists from the oldest dwellers of villages in Ukraine, or those they heard themselves while on expeditions to various villages in the following oblasts in Ukraine: Sumy, Chernihiv, Poltava, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk. UVV pays homage to the ancient spirit of these songs while also naturally bringing a unique North American feel to the music.  UVV has performed for a wide range of audiences in the New York metropolitan area and other locales in New York State and vicinity, as well as in Canada and Ukraine. Venues have ranged from folk music and seasonal festivals to museums, theaters, libraries, community centers, church halls, and sidewalk, park, radio and webcast concerts. Donations benefiting both presenting organizations of $20 for adults and $10 for students are suggested, but not required. Seating is limited. EMERGENCY ALERTS
Please make sure that you and your family are registered to receive emergency alerts from the Weston Office of Emergency Management. Registration can be done online by visiting https://www.westonct.gov/our-community/community-alert-system-and-e-notifications. Weston’s Public Safety Team will continue to expertly guide us through storms by sending out texts, emails and automated phone calls via our Everbridge system. The Reassurance Program is a list of Weston residents who would like to be called by an employee of the Weston Social Services Dept in times of Town emergencies or inclement weather. We encourage those who live alone, don't drive, or have medical needs to register as this list is also shared with Emergency Responders in times of Town emergencies. - The Assessment Program at Silver Hill Hospital We are pleased to announce our continued partnership with Silver Hill Hospital, the Town of New Canaan, and most recently, the Town of Westport to provide Weston residents of all ages with timely, comprehensive mental health assessments and personalized referrals for ongoing care. These assessments will remain available at no cost to Weston residents. This program was initially funded through ARPA grants and will receive future funding from the opioid settlement fund. Attention Medicare Beneficiaries!

- The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), in partnership with NORC at the University of Chicago, is conducting the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS)—a national study that looks at the health care experiences, needs, and costs of people on Medicare.

- Starting in late July, some Medicare recipients in our community may be randomly selected to take part in this important survey. Interviews may happen by phone or in person.

- This is a legitimate government-backed effort to improve Medicare services. If you’re contacted, your participation is completely voluntary—but greatly appreciated.

BOARD OF SELECTMEN MEETINGS

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR TOWN BOARDS
The following appointed boards have positions available: Commission on Aging, Board of Assessment Appeals Alternate, Commission for the Arts, Beautification Committee, Building Committee, Board of Ethics, Historic District Commission Alternate, Children & Youth Commission, Marketing & Communications Committee, Panel of Moderators, Sustainable Weston, Veterans Affairs Committee. The Town of Weston Board of Selectmen will conduct interviews of candidates for appointed boards, commissions and committees in private, unless the candidate requests that the interview occur in public. Through the CT Freedom of Information Act, the state legislature expressly allows the Town Board of Selectmen to hold non-public executive sessions to discuss “the appointment, employment, performance, evaluation, health or dismissal of a public officer or employee." C.G.S. § 1-200 (6)(a).
