Workshop: Painting The Child Portrait

Dates: June 13-15

Crystal will take you through her process of taking and choosing reference video and photos (with special considerations for working with children), composition-building using procreate on the iPad, mining masterworks for problem-solving, and painting the child portrait. This class will focus on solving problems before they happen, and emotional storytelling through composition choices.

Workshop: Figure & Composition

Dates: August 8-11

Comprehensive, in-depth study of the principles of composition, value, pattern, tone, staging, mood and color palette. Emphasis is placed on the creative process from staging model to finished art. Assignment is developing from model and situation sources.

Zhaoming wu

Workshop: painting the draped figure

Dates: august 21-24

In this 4-day workshop, Zhaoming will teach a traditional “painterly” technique of oil painting.  It will be applied to figure painting in an “alla prima” approach.  Emphasis will be placed on composition, color and understanding light on form. It will include the process of producing appropriate values and edges to create mood and atmosphere. Students will be led into figure painting practice by observing Zhaoming’s demonstrations along with individual instruction, and critiques.

Zhaoming’s understanding of classical techniques and superb draftsmanship has enabled him to paint in a loose manner, developing his own concept and personal style. His workshop is special and limited to a very few throughout the year.
