At the generous invitation of Wintergreen Resort, the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra will return for an exciting family-friendly patriotic pops concert headlining Saturday night of the July Fourth Jubilee! Join Artistic Director Erin Freeman and the full orchestra for music from Broadway and Film to patriotic favorites such as America the Beautiful and Stars and Stripes Forever. There will even be a few singalongs, for those who want to join our impressive roster of musicians! Seating will be available on a first come, first served basis in Dunlop Pavilion, and we welcome you to bring your chairs and blankets to enjoy slopeside seating. (Free and open to the public.)

Straight from her debut in the Netflix film Maestra, French-American conductor Mélisse Brunet will lead the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra in Mozart’s playful Overture to The Magic Flute. Then, Avery Gagliano, First Prize winner of the 2020 National Chopin Piano Competition and finalist of the prestigious 2025 American Pianists Awards, will join the orchestra for Grieg’s magnificent piano concerto. After intermission, join the Orchestra for a special Symphony for the Mountain, combining meaningful and inspiring movements from four different symphonies into one celebratory work for Wintergreen Music’s 30th Anniversary!

Join us as we honor the rich musical heritage of Nelson County and its lasting legacy through the work of renowned music educator Othello Wilson. In collaboration with Oak Hill Baptist Church and the Nelson County Historical Society and the Oakland Museum, Wintergreen Music is proud to present a special screening of Jonathan Page’s recently completed documentary about Othello Wilson titled “Let Your Light Shine.”  In the 1930s, Othello Wilson sparked a cultural and educational renaissance in one rural Virginia community for its struggling black citizens affected by Jim Crow laws and the Great Depression.  His educational medium was music.  The event will be followed by a live Q&A with Producer and Director Jonathan Page, a Nelson County Native, as well as performances by LEAD Cooperative students, offering a unique opportunity to experience the story and music that have shaped our community.

The program opens with Libby Larsen’s bright and colorful tone poem Deep Summer Music. Virginia-based soloist Jeff Midkiff will then join us to perform his own composition, From the Blue Ridge, a concerto for Mandolin and Orchestra. The evening concludes with Elgar’s Enigma Variations, including the beloved “Nimrod” and a triumphant conclusion. Join us for this fitting and memorable season finale!
