Woven Stories 2025: 16th Spring Festival Silicon Valley Gala & 2nd Multicultural Arts Festival A Cross-Cultural Symphony of Life’s Many Flavors is a vibrant cross-cultural celebration that honors the Lunar New Year season in Silicon Valley.

Showcasing the Bay Area’s diverse communities, it interweaves stories of heritage, innovation and reunion in a tapestry of music, dance and immersive art forms that explore life’s six quintessential flavors — sweet, sour, spicy, bitter, salty and umami.

CPAA Arts Center, established in 1991, has long been a cornerstone for Chinese art education in Northern California, championing the principle of “breaking boundaries through art.” Its commitment to blending Eastern and Western traditions is brought to life in this gala, where classical Chinese opera shares the stage with traditional Mexican and Indian performances, creating a rich multicultural tapestry.

Divided into four thematic chapters — ranging from “The Lingering Embrace of Sweet and Sour” to “A Symphony of Life’s Many Flavors” — the production unfolds through dance, instrumental ensembles, theatrical vignettes and interactive media. Each chapter uses the symbolism of cuisine to reflect universal human emotions, revealing the warmth of family reunions, the struggles of forging new identities, and the profound beauty of cultural fusion.

National First-Class Choreographer Han Feng returns as chief Director, working alongside cross-disciplinary artist Wu Diandian as Assistant Director. Esteemed performers include flute and xiao master Yu Xiaoqing, guqin virtuoso Wang Man, National First-Class dancer Sun Wenlong, pipa player Zhang Shenshen, pianists Dr. Ilya Blinov and Wu Hao, and conductor Zhang Zhizhen leading the Jingjing Choir.

The Feiyang Dance Troupe, the H Performing Art Academy youth ensemble and rising stars like dance award-winner Jeffrey Wu join a multicultural cast on stage, presenting works that mirror both tradition and innovation.

By weaving together multiple art forms and cultural perspectives, this grand production serves as an inspiring tribute to the shared hopes and dreams that unite the Bay Area’s diverse communities for the upcoming dynamic Lunar New Year.
