West Virginia Democrats Praise Bipartisan House Vote Defeating Governor Morrisey's Dangerous Immunization Exemption Bill, Urge Immediate Rescinding of Executive Order

Charleston, WV – West Virginia Democratic Party Chair Mike Pushkin praised members of the West Virginia House of Delegates today after the responsible, courageous, and bipartisan defeat of SB 460, Governor Patrick Morrisey's deeply irresponsible and dangerous child immunization exemption legislation.

"Today's vote was a victory for common sense, public health, and bipartisan cooperation," said Delegate Mike Pushkin. "Governor Morrisey must now immediately rescind his ill-advised, dangerous, and deadly executive order, respecting the clear voice of our constituents. This administration cannot continue to put political pandering ahead of the health and safety of West Virginia families."

The decisive bipartisan rejection of SB 460 aligns with overwhelming public opinion. According to a poll commissioned by the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, only 5% of West Virginians supported Governor Morrisey's harmful legislation.

Delegate Anitra Hamilton praised her colleagues for standing firmly against the reckless bill. "Today, members of both parties stood together to prioritize the safety and wellbeing of West Virginians," Hamilton said. "We’ve sent a clear message that the health of our children and communities must always come first. Governor Morrisey’s executive order endangers lives, and it's imperative he revokes it immediately."

Delegate John Williams emphasized the bipartisan unity demonstrated by the vote. "In an era of intense political polarization, this vote proves that our House can still find common ground on issues of vital importance," Williams said. "Governor Morrisey must listen to the people and abandon his dangerous political games. Rescinding this executive order will show true leadership and respect for West Virginians."

The West Virginia Democratic Party urges Governor Morrisey to act responsibly and heed the bipartisan voice of the House of Delegates, healthcare professionals, educators, parents, and the overwhelming majority of West Virginians who reject this dangerous legislation.
