The Abington Lions are a group of local men and women who are actively involved in making our community grow and prosper - grow and prosper not just for a few, but for everyone. As part of the "community" The Abington Lions Club supports the commitments of Lions Clubs International. However, we go many steps further in our local community support. Founded over 75 years ago, the Lions International is the largest community service organization, and it is still growing. he Lions family includes 1.6 million men, women and young adults , serving 171 counties around the world.
In 1925 Helen Keller challenged the Lions to be "knights of the blind" and lead the crusade against darkness. Since then we have had a long tradition of service to the blind and those threatened by blindness. Locally our club is an annual contributor to the Lackawanna Association of the Blind. Each summer we sponsor a local child to the Beacon Lodge Camp for the Blind in Pennsylvania. We annually fund the Sargent Seymour children's program in the Abington Heights Elementary Schools through the Association for the Blind. We annual support the Leader Dog program and also contribute annually to the Northeast Pennsylvania Eye Bank in Allentown , PA. Our club was chartered 48 years ago last Dec 19th. by 65 men who thought a void needed to be filled in our community. Here almost 50 years later, countless hours of service and thousands of dollars of hope have been channeled throughout our community by past and current members.
