Mission

Our mission is to educate, enrich, and inform the residents of Alexandria and Monroe Township.

History

The Alexandria-Monroe Public Library has been serving Alexandria and Monroe Township for over 100 years. The library is governed by a Library Board of Trustees appointed by various elected bodies through out the township and county.

Director Montie Manning and nine staff members oversee the many services and programs offered by the library. These include the latest book titles, DVDs, music CDs, audio books, downloadable audio and eBooks, kindle e-Readers, newspapers, magazines, electronic databases, computer classes, a HomeBound book delivery service, a monthly adult book group, a public meeting room, local history resources, as well as a wide variety of programs and outreach services for all ages.

The library is a member of the state-wide Evergreen Indiana Library Consortium offering access to over 6 million various items throughout the state. We are also part of the statewide reciprocal borrowing covenant. Patrons can access materials from libraries across the country through our interlibrary loan services.

The library has 18 computer workstations equipped with high speed Internet access and loaded with Microsoft products in addition to a networked color printer. Also, the library offers laptops for use by adult patrons while in the library and we offer a wifi network for patrons using their own laptops and mobile devices. Three online catalog stations are available for use in the library and patrons can access the library anytime on the web at www.alex.lib.in.us. Patrons can also access our calendar of events, upcoming book and DVD titles, and program information from our website. The use of the meeting room may also be requested through our website.
