The Alliance Française is the largest network of French language and cultural centers in the world. There are 1200 alliance chapters established in 112 countries, including 120 chapters in the United States, serving 420,000 students. The Alliance Française is dedicated to promoting French language and culture and to fostering friendly relations between Francophiles of all racial, national and ethnic origins.
In Providence
The French Alliance of Providence began in 1901, 17 years after the birth of the Fédération of the Alliances A founding member and the second president of the organization was Mary C. Wheeler, namesake of a prestigious Providence school. Since 1901, the Alliance has fostered the study and celebration of many aspects of the French-speaking world.
