On the sixth day of April 2003 two women, one in Texas, and the other in Tennessee, decided to create an organization. They worked long days and nights to form an organization that catered to Mothers' aspiring to improve themselves and their children. Their dedication created Sigma Beta Xi Sorority Inc and on June 9, 2014 in Montgomery, Alpha Upsilon Colony was chartered. The Alpha Upsilon Colony is sisters on a journey of empowerment through self-improvement, service, higher education, leadership and sisterhood. Our sisterhood was created for women to express the cares and concerns for the health issues and rights of women and children. Due to this initiatives our national board has chosen this organizations as our national philanthropies: M.A.D.D. ,E.R.A., St. Jude Children's Hospital, March of Dimes, Breast Cancer Awareness.
Alpha Upsilon encourages and assists with personal and professional development of its members. While also promoting educational attainment and success. Swans are committed to planning and implementing programs that not only empower themselves, but our community at large. Our chapter members are inspired to exemplify positive leadership and sisterhood in their personal lives as well as the community. As our sisterhood is built, swans will be empowered personally, academically, socially, and spiritually.
