Appalachia Star Farm began in 2003 on 5 acres in Nelson County. At Appalachia Star Farm we use sustainable growing methods to raise vegetables, fruits and eggs. We use growing methods to encourage biological activity in the soil and minimize our impact on the earth while producing nourishing and flavorful products. Our vegetables, fruits, and eggs are available at local farmer's markets and through our CSA subscription. We grow over 40 crops - vegetables, herbs, flowers, and fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, and fall raspberries.
Our CSA is part of a cooperative CSA called Firsthand Farmers Cooperative. We are a group of 6 area farmers working together to provide a diverse CSA offering including vegetables, fruits, mushrooms, and dairy products.
Our basic vegetable share will include 7-10 different vegetables each week in addition to some fruit in season. We offer two seasons - May - August and September - December, each 17 weeks long. We also over various additional shares from our farm including egg shares and herb shares plus products from other area farms including mushrooms, dairy, and chicken. We deliver to Charlottesville on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1110 East Market St., Suite 10K.
