Mission Statement:
The Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired strives to be our community's foremost provider and coordinator of preventive, educational, social, and rehabilitative programs concerning vision loss. Our goal is to assist each individual and his/her family to achieve their greatest potential.
History:
Founded in 1928 by the Allentown Lions Club, the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ABVI) has evolved over the decades from a sheltered workshop "care" philosophy into an organization which supports individuals with vision loss in pursuing their own lives and dreams. Our motto: Pathways to Independence, is achieved through a team of committed people working with each customer on their own goals and dreams.
Although methods of service delivery have changed, ABVI has not wavered from its original purpose! That is to prevent blindness wherever possible, and to assist people with adjusting to the challenges associated with severe vision loss.
