A Craft Beer Pub with Menu that Surprises and Delights

Brian and Lisa Ford knew they were creating something very special with their craft beer pub in historic Old Town Auburn, and they sought to develop a menu that was as unique as their landmark building. "We've had a lot of experience surprising people," Brian said. "So we wanted to go far beyond the 'pizza-pasta-beer' formula you see in so many brew pubs."

At the same time, the Fords were determined to make the Auburn Alehouse a family-friendly destination. They accomplished this with affordable pricing and offering a kid's menu that appeals to even the fussiest tykes.

Their ultimate goal was to create a solid "American pub menu" that would pair excellent quality with an approach that would offer something different. "Old Town Auburn told us what was missing," Brian explained.

The result is a diverse menu that emphasizes hearty brew pub fare while taking a cue from the subtle goodness of classic California cuisine. The menu is anchored with substantial foods demanded by pub aficionados, such as the Chili Cheese Burger and Pulled Pork. But there are plenty of surprises: starters such as, Pub Pickle Chips (ale battered pickle chips with cucumber-wasabi aioli), Shanghai Lettuce Wraps, to fresh Ahi Tuna served raw or seared.

You can't beat the Alehouse Chili, and the Walnut Gorgonzola salad is to die for. A host of sandwiches will confound you; the "Chef's Favorites" will astound your taste buds. Try the Alehouse Veggie Napoleon, the Grilled Salmon or, think like a kid and go with the Adult Mac and Cheese.

And, yes we've got great gourmet pizza selections as well as a tasty Kid's Menu . . .because the Alehouse is a venue that welcomes families. In addition to the regular menu, the Alehouse offers a "Monthly Pub Special and an ever-changing "Seasonal Specials." Check the menu on the web site for updates.\

A recent addition to Old Town Auburn, the Auburn Alehouse Brewery and Restaurant is located in the historic American Block Building at 289 Washington Street in Old Town Auburn, California. You may better remember the building as the former home of the Shanghai Restaurant and bar, where scenes from the movie, Phenomenon were filmed.

The ambiance of the Auburn Alehouse combines the charm and character of this historic brick and mortar building with the bold industrial elements of a gleaming 10-barrel microbrewery. Guests and friends can enjoy lunch, dinner, and libation while watching the freshly crafted beer they are drinking being produced just a few feet away. There is also an outdoor patio with a great view of the historic Auburn courthouse.

There are always at least 6-8 beers on tap and Hard Cider and select "guest" craft beers are also available on draught. Interestingly, the Auburn Alehouse is located just 1/10th of a mile from the original Auburn Brewery, which brewed for thirsty Auburnites from 1855 until 1908. You may stop by for the ale, but you'll find the food is a star attraction as well. Whether you're in the mood for pub fare or a sit down dinner, there is something for every one at the Alehouse.
