Jesus promised to build his church on the foundation that He is "the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Matthew 16:13-18 NKJV). The church of Christ was established in Jerusalem when 3,000 Jews responded to the gospel of Jesus Christ (Acts chapter 2). "And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved" (Acts 2:47). As time passed, more and more people were drawn to follow Jesus (Acts 5:14). When persecution arose against the church in Jerusalem, the gospel (good news) was carried forth to the surrounding regions of Judea and Samaria (Acts chapter 8). Cornelius and his household became the first Gentiles (non-Jews) to be added to the Lord's church (Acts chapter 10). Later, after Paul's three journeys to preach the gospel and his trip to Rome, he wrote, "The gospel . . . was preached to every creature under heaven" (Colossians 1:23). The message of salvation through Jesus Christ had indeed spread quickly from Jerusalem, to Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth just as the Lord said it would (Acts 1:8). Today, at the worship services of the church of Christ in Bacliff, Texas, you will find Christians who are studying to grow in the knowledge of the truth (John 8:32) and are sincerely devoted to serving the Lord.
