BarberElementary School is located at 50 Sargent Avenue in Phillipsburg, NJ. It is one of seven school buildings in the district, and is the second 1st and 2nd grade building in the district, the other one being FreemanElementary School. BarberSchool was built in 1931 in the IngersollHeights section of Phillipsburg and was originally known as the HillcrestSchool. In 1933 the building was rededicated as BarberSchool in memory of Dr. Isaac Barber who was a prominent doctor and politician in the area. BarberSchool functions as a focal point in the most densely populated section of the Hillcrest neighborhood. The building is 21,000 square foot, two stories and the facility encompasses 1.26 acres and an entire town block. There are two temporary classroom units that are utilized by various support teachers such as; ELL, Speech, Counselor, Gifted and Talented, Occupational Therapist, and the Reading teachers.
