Bear Creek Community Church started as a dream and a vision that God gave Pastor Bill & Dotti Cummins. After surveying the community, it became apparent that a new church was needed in North Stockton/Lodi; a church that could reach the non-churched ‘Stockton Joe & Stockton Joyce’, as we fictitiously called them. We therefore, began a telemarketing and direct mail campaign to identify people who were not connected to a local church. After much prayer and a deep sense of God’s call, we held our first service at Delta Sierra Middle School on April 9, 1989.
In 1992 the church moved to larger facilities at the brand new Bear Creek High School. We also purchased 7 acres of prime real estate on Lower Sacramento Rod just north of Eight Mile road. Two years later, God ‘gave’ us three more acres of land adjacent to our property.
On February 14, 1999, we experienced the excitement of moving to our own ‘promised land’ as we held our first service in the ‘Tent’. It was a wonderful moment in our history as we planted our feet firmly upon the ground that God had prepared for us. This was ‘holy ground’ to us. It was to become our permanent home and our future. We prayerfully dedicated it and committed it to the Lord.
Today, we are looking forward to the completion by the end of this year (2006) of our new 20,000 square foot Worship Center that began construction almost a year ago. Excitement is building as we anticipate moving into this spacious new facility that will help us touch the lives of more men, women, children and young people throughout our community with the love of Christ. Our future looks bright.
The most exciting part of our history is that hundreds of people have gotten connected to Jesus; and hundreds of others of have experienced the healing, help, hope and caring that come from being part of our church family.
Bear Creek Church has a deep commitment to Christ and His Word, a love for people, and an unusual ability to teach and evangelize in a relational way.
