Our Church's History :

Bethel Bible Church Located at 3225 West 96th Street, came into existence on September 11, 1966 as a result of a merger of two churches. The churches were Bethel Baptist Church of Evergreen Park and Grace Bible Church of Chicago.

Bethel Baptist Church was established in 1942 with Reverend J. J. Althuis as pastor. The first church building was formerly Leppin's Saloon at 95th and Kedzie Avenue. After taking off the top two stories of the frame building, the bottom story was moved to the present location on 96th Street. A brick front was added and church services began with fifteen members.  The present building used by the Bethel Bible Church was erected in two phases under the direction of pastors Reverend C. M. Beerthuis in 1955 and Reverend D. L. Allbaugh in 1960.

Grace Bible Church, of 8801 South Hermitage Avenue in Chicago, was itself the result of a merger of two churches. The Reverend Elwood H. Chipchase was instrumental in uniting the works of Grace Bible Church and Bethel Baptist Church in 1966. He then remained the pastor of the combined church.

Bethel Bible Church has maintained a worldwide missionary focus, supporting 17 missionaries in 7 countries. In addition, the church has had a strong emphasis on local ministry. Bible classes, children's programs, concerts and many other programs have been used in the community. This church has served Evergreen Park for over 50 years.
