What is Big Kidz Matter?
Big Kidz Matter is an initiative that is sponsored by Brown Bears Community Improvement Group Inc, a 501(c)3 Non-profit Organization. The program was founded in September 2011 out of necessity due to the significant reduction in the main funding source of state subsidized care as a result of enormous legislative cuts to the state's budget. Because of the aforementioned cuts, many families have been terminated from school readiness programs that assisted families by paying partial or whole costs for aftercare services; leaving thousands of families with school age children between the ages 5 and 12 with nowhere to turn. Big Kidz Matter aims to fill the void that was left by the reduction in subsidized care funds. Our major program objective is to help needy families by paying whole or partial costs for care that will keep school age children safe and under the supervision of a licensed nurturing aftercare provider.
Although the State of Florida does not have a minimum age requirement for children to be left in their homes without adult supervision, Big Kidz Matter believes that children between the ages 5 and 12 should not be left in their homes alone to become potential targets for sexual predators, home burglars, and/or other adults who prey upon the innocence and naivety of young children.
At Big Kidz Matter, we urge the community to join together and help keep our children safe. The life of a child is very precious, and if we don't protect them who will?
Our Mission Big Kidz Matters' mission is to assist low-income families by making aftercare more affordable at quality programs and to make a difference in the life of school age children by providing community services to help children excel physically, emotionally, and academically.
