Bloomfield Elementary School serves a diverse population of approximately 460 students in all, Universal Pre-K through Grade 5. Depending on the configuration of the population by age and needs, there can be three to five sections per grade level. The average class size is approximately 20. Students are heterogeneously grouped for instruction. Remediation is provided in consultation with classroom teachers and Academic Intervention Support teachers. These services are provided in the classroom and on a pull-out basis, depending on the needs of the individual students. Special education services are also available for those who meet specific criteria and are provided by special education teachers, teacher assistants, and related service providers. These services are provided to meet individual student’s needs both in the classroom and on a pull-out basis. The Elementary School operates on a 6–day special subject schedule cycle. We are currently in application to become recognized as an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme School.
The goal of the elementary school program is to develop literate students who read for multiple purposes, interact with literature to learn about themselves and the world, and communicate their learning with others in order to make a positive difference in the world.
