Bluebird Farm raises healthy, flavorful, vegetables, pastured meats, and eggs using techniques that improve the health of our land and contribute to a diverse farm ecosystem. Our meat animals are fed certified organic grains.
We are dedicated to building living soils to ensure the quality of our vegetables and animals.
All of our animals are raised outside on pasture without the use of antibiotics or synthetic hormones.
Pastured animals are healthier and are able to express natural behaviors. Healthy, happy animals raised on pasture produce high quality meat that is low in saturated fats, more flavorful, and higher in essential omega 3 fatty acids than conventional meats. All of our meat animals are fed certified organic grains and our layer flock is fed vegetarian, non-medication conventional grains. We produce pastured eggs, chicken, lamb, beef, and pork.
Our vegetables are grown in living soils without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides and harvested at the peak of freshness. Road weary grocery store vegetables cannot match the ripeness, flavor, and nutrition of our freshly harvested vegetables. We grow over 100 varieties of vegetables including heirlooms. Seasonal vegetables available April-December.
Purchase our farm's products at local farmers markets, at the farm, or through our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. We are proud to provide all of our customers with high-quality, ethical food while contributing to a healthy environment and our community.
Farmers Marie Williamson and William Lyons work full time on their farm, and their greatest pleasure is feeding folks wholesome foods and managing a healthy farm ecosystem. If they aren't working in the fields and pastures of their farm, cooking, or attending a farmers' market, they'll be on a mountain, birding, or paddling a river not far from the farm. They met at Warren Wilson College, where William worked in the organic garden and Marie worked with pastured sows and hogs. After studying biology, ecology, and sustainable agriculture and gaining experience on farms around the United States and in Europe, Marie and William returned home to Western North Carolina in 2009 and started Bluebird Farm.
Bluebird Farm is nestled along Silver Creek which flows from the South Mountains in Burke County. A portion of their farm is Marie's family land where she grew up caring for horses, goats, hens, and a garden.
