About Us:
Wind Gap, Pennsylvania is The Gateway to the Poconos and is loved for it’s “small town” feel while it is centrally located and only minutes from the Lehigh Valley, Allentown, Easton, Stroudsburg and New Jersey!
Wind Gap has a population of approximately 2818 and was founded as a community in 1893.
Wind Gap was founded as a community in 1893 with original settlers being sheepherders. We were incorporated in 1893 with the first Council meeting being held in August. The tollhouse located on Route 115 (N. Broadway) was part of the stage route and now serves as a family dwelling. Railroads reached Wind Gap in 1878, with trolley cars appearing in the early 1900's. Textiles and slate industries helped to form the backbone of Wind Gap's economy.
Our Fire Company was incorporated on March 28, 1921 and was once located in what is now the Borough Office. The new building sits on N. Broadway housing two fire trucks and a utility truck as well as a social hall. The fire department is supported by over 30 volunteer members.
Wind Gap Park is our great pride. Situated on approximately 25 acres, the Park consists of tennis and basketball courts, ball fields, a playground, kiddie area and picnic pavillions. During the warm summer nights area residents gather at the Bandstand to enjoy Concerts by local bands. Both the Firemen's Picnic and Car show are held in the Park yearly.
The Municipal Authority was formed in 1968 and serves Wind Gap Borough, Bushkill Township and Plainfield Township.
