Organization History:
Greenfield Unit:
The Greenfield Boys' Club was founded in 1938. The old Lincoln School was used after school in the evenings as well as the Memorial Building. In 1952, the Board of Directors raised money, along with a donation from Eli Lilly and Company, to build a gamesroom, pool room, locker room, wood shop and kitchen. Two years later a gymnasium would follow. In 1993, $1,275,000 was raised for major renovation and expansion to include a new gymnasium, lobby, office and storage area.
Fortville Unit:
In January, 1995 a Mount Vernon High School student was fatally injured on the railroad tracks near the town of Fortville. Because of this tradegy, a group of concerned citizens began to study the possibility of having the Boys and Girls Club expand to their community. After feasibility studies were completed, the community raised over $950,000 to build a 14,000 square foot facility. The Fortville Unit was open to members in September, 1998.
