Mission Statement:
To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.
History:
The Bronx Lions Club was chartered in the spring of 1923. Records indicate that during the 1930s the Bronx Lions conducted classes in Americanism and helped thousands of new immigrants to become U.S. citizens. After World War II the Bronx Lions entered into a joint effort with the New York Institute for the Blind to provide therapy and training to veterans who were blinded in action.
During the 1950s the Bronx Lions pioneered regular Glaucoma Screening Clinics at the Bronx Eye and Ear Hospital. The purchase of a Vision Van permitted the Bronx Lions to hold vision screenings on every corner of the borough.
The Bronx Lions Club has a long-standing relationship with the Montefiore Medical Center.
In the 1980s and 1990s the Bronx Lions expanded its mission to include Lions Baseball Nights and support of Camp Sunshine, a camp in Maine for children with life-threatening illnesses.
