History
Our local Burbank Community YMCA is 81 years old and still going strong! We've been at the Magnolia address since 1945, constantly making improvements, including renovations to our Ray Sence Room and our Aquatics center. We are proud to offer the only Youth Fitness Center for children 9-14 in this area.
Nationally, the YMCA is now 152 years old and arguably the most successful social institution in America. The very first YMCA was founded in Boston in 1851 by Thomas Sullivan Valentine, a sea captain and missionary, who wanted to make life a little easier for the young men of his day, who were new to the city, often alone and in need of a surrogate family.
Years later, that’s exactly what the YMCA offers men and women: A place where you can build strong families, strong kids and strong communities. One out of three Americans has been a YMCA member at some point in their life.
