We are committed to working with landowners, developers, town & local government as well as the citizens of Burlington in order to have an impact on the future planning and development of our community.

Our History

Founded in 1989, the Burlington land Trust is a non-profit organization funded by membership dues and donations. The principle mission of any land trust is to conserve open space. Click here for a list of our properties.

Community Outreach

BLT sponsors events like the Vertical Mile Challenge, Trails Day and the Snowshoe Ramble in order to promote passive recreation on open space. It is our way of getting the community involved and vested in conservation. Burlington has over 110 miles of hiking options on 27 different trail combinations. We also sponsor educational programs like the Summer Reading Kickoff. You learn about the variety of trees in our forests by checking out our tree identification signs on the Red Trail around the pond on Greer Road.

Land Conservation and Acquisition

The BLT works with landowners, businesses and all levels of government, sharing a common objective of land preservation through acquisition, donation or conservation easement. The BLT works cooperatively with other organizations including the Connecticut Land Conservation Council, the Land Trust Alliance, The Trust for Public Land and our good friends at Connecticut Forest & Park Association.

Land Stewardship

We manage and look over our properties in order to fulfill the original wishes of land donors, guard against encroachment and preserve and protect the walking trails on our properties for all to enjoy. The BLT owns or manages 9 properties, covering over 400 acres.
