History :
In 1959 two men, Brother Guy Redding and Brother Johnnie Carden, shared a dream. This dream was to establish a church in Bremen, Georgia, founded on the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and based on the inerrant word of God found in the King James Bible. They discussed their dream and sought God's will and guidance in the matter.
In the summer of 1961 the two men attended a revival meeting on Highway 78 east of Bremen. Brother Howard Lee led this meeting, which was an old-fashioned tent revival where the Holy Spirit moved among the people. In attendance that night was Brother Jimmy Wright who had recently returned from a trip to Illinois where he had been helping in revival meetings. The moving of the Holy Spirit was evidenced by the fact that Brother Wright stated to Brothers Redding and Carden that what the Bremen area needed was a church filled with this same Spirit of revival. After the meeting Brothers Redding, Carden, Lee and Wright discussed late into the night the possibilities of starting just such a church. Around midnight the men decided to lay out a fleece before God. The next day these men would begin contacting people who had available buildings and see how God would answer their prayers.
About Us :
For over forty years Calvary Baptist Church has been home to many Christians. It has been a place were they could work, worship and enjoy the love & friendship that lives within our church.
What We Believe :
We are a fundamental church that uses the King James 1611 Bible, however we don't major on the book of God, but rather on the God of the book. We believe in the fundamentals of the faith, such as the virgin birth of Christ, His death for the sins of the world, and His resurrection from the grave. We are Pre-millennialist in our faith; we believe you serve God because you are a Christian, not to become a Christian.
We believe in only one true and living God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost and that these three persons are one God.
We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the Word of God, given to us by the inspiration of God and that the New Testament is the only book of discipline to govern the Church of God; and that Jesus Christ is the only Head and Law-giver of the church.
We believe that all men are sinners by nature, children of wrath, even dead through trespasses and sins and totally unable to recover themselves from their fallen estate by any power of their own.
We believe in the doctrine of election, sovereign, eternal particular individual according to the knowledge of God the Father in sanctification of the spirit, and belief of the truth of Jesus Christ.
We believe that sinners are justified in the sight of God only by God's grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, who loved us and gave himself for us.
We believe in the preservation and perseverance of the saints unto the day of redemption of the holy body.
We believe that baptism and the Lord's Supper are the two New Testament ordinances setting forth Christian Doctrines in simple but more impressive symbolism and that the local church is the custodian of these ordinances.
We believe that baptism enjoined upon true believers in Jesus Christ only, was commanded by our Lord to keep His church and that immersion is the scriptural mode for baptism.
We believe that the Lords' Supper was instituted by the Head of the church and given to His Body to be observed humbly and devoutly until He comes again, and that the prerequisites of the Lord's table are three; namely, regeneration of the new birth, baptism , and an orderly life.
We believe that the local church is composed of members who have given acceptable evidence of regeneration involving repentance and faith, who have been baptized and who have covenanted together to give loyal and loving obedience to the commandments of Jesus, the only Head and Law-giver, and that the only scriptural officers are the pastor (also called elder and bishop) and the deacons.
We believe in the resurrection of the dead, and a general judgment, and that the righteous enter into eternal life and the wicked into eternal punishment.
We believe that no person has the right to administer the ordnances of the church, only those who are chosen by the church and have been spiritually set apart to that office.
We believe that all infants that die as such are saved through the atoning death of Christ and by the renewing of the Holy Spirit.
We believe it is the mission of the church to send to every nation the Gospel as the only way of Salvation, according to the positive commandments of Jesus, the Head of the Church which is His body.
